WOC 2013
Finland will host World Orienteering Championships in 2013. Finland will be the first nation to host WOC for the fourth time in the IOF history. WOC 2013 will be organized in Vuokatti 6.-14.7.2013 together with Kainuu orienteering week.
Finland has organised the IOF World Orienteering Championships three times so far – in 1966, 1979 and 2001, and the IOF World Trail Orienteering Championships once in 2006. In fact, the history of the World Championships in Orienteering started in Finland in 1966. In 1979 it was again Finland’s turn to organise WOC. WOC 2001 in Tampere set the standards for this decade’s Championships: big-screen production, GPS-tracking, live TV broadcasts and mobile phone services were introduced in orienteering. The Sprint was also in a WOC programme for the first time.
